About
Roger Patterson retired in March 2019 from his position as Associate General Counsel and Assistant Secretary at The Walt Disney Company, where he advised Disney on financial disclosure and corporate governance. Prior to that, he practiced at the law firm of WilmerHale in Washington, DC from 1982 to 2003.
In 2018, Roger earned a Diploma from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust, one of the two largest accrediting organizations in the wine business. He conducts an event called “Wine and History: A Tasting Guide to the Story of Civilization,” which outlines the history of civilization in 90 minutes and allows guests to taste ten wines that are tied to key historical milestones.
Roger has been cycling ever since it was the best way for him to get around on his own as a child in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. A friend’s cross-country cycling trip in 2008 reminded Roger how rewarding it was to see the world at the speed of a bicycle, and it spurred him to participate in a ride from Kittery, Maine to Washington, DC in 2009. Since then, he has looked forward to finding time for a ride across the country. His recent retirement finally gave him the time to tackle this trip.
The joys of cycling for Roger include the opportunity to get to know people along the way, and he looks forward to conversations with those he meets on the road and at his stops.
Toni LeBel retired from the practice of law when our twin sons, now age 25, were born. She works part-time as a photographer for the Pasadena Outlook Newspaper, sings with several choirs, and does volunteer work with Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church and the Pasadena Guild of Children’s Hospital. Toni will be listening to audiobooks and podcasts as she drives Roger’s SAG vehicle (Support & Gear). She’s the outgoing member of the couple and is looking forward to starting lots of conversations with the people she meets on this trip.
Roger and Toni live in La Cañada, California.
