Here is the weather forecast for the next five days in each of the towns I had planned to ride to in Wyoming:
Snow on four of five days is not exactly what I had planned. In fact, when I planned the trip, I checked the weather each day for the town I planned to visit on that date in 2019. The high temperatures each day last year were in the high 60s and low 70s; not the least hint of snow. What a difference a year makes!
As I said yesterday, my goal is to ride an unbroken line except for . . ., with the exceptions to be determined. Well, snow is certainly one of the exceptions, and it looks like that translates into “except Wyoming.”
So, we’re going to improvise. Toni and I have always wanted to visit Boulder, Colorado, so we are going to stay ahead of the snow by driving south towards Boulder starting Sunday. We plan to spend a few days in Boulder, maybe get a little riding in around there, and watch how the weather develops. We expect to rejoin the planned route by driving up to Hot Springs, South Dakota. The current forecast for Hot Springs next Friday (even the name sounds warmer) is partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid-60s.
I hear the bicycling around Boulder is terrific. I’ll save Wyoming for another day.
We took some time today to visit the Jackson Hole Winery, one of only several wineries in Wyoming, and probably the highest altitude winery in the country. The wines were remarkably good, and we had a good conversation with Tony Schroth, the winemaker and owner. I’ll be writing up that conversation in the next couple of days and posting it in the Conversations blog.
Sorry, no barns today.
